Development of novel 1,4-benzodiazepine-based Michael acceptors as antitrypanosomal agents

Novel 1,4-benzodiazepines, endowed with a Michael acceptor moiety, were designed taking advantage of a computational prediction of their pharmacokinetic parameters. Among all the synthesized derivatives, we identified a new lead compound (i.e., 4a), bearing a vinyl ketone warhead and endowed with a promising antitrypanosomal activity against Trypanosoma brucei brucei (IC50 = 5.29 µM), coupled with a lack of cytotoxicity towards mammalian cells (TC50>100 µM).

AbstractCadmium sulphide nanoparticles have been synthesised in water/sodium bis (2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT)/n- heptane microemulsions kept at 30 °C by microwave irradiation coupled with water-cooling and in conventional thermostatic conditions at the same temperature. The study has been performed exposing the reaction media to microwave radiation at five different frequencies (2.45, 2.85, 8, 12 and 18 GHz). Synthesis of Nd:YAG nanopowder using the citrate method with microwave irradiation

Abstract Nd:YAG nanopowders were prepared using the Pechini process with microwave irradiation ( MWs ). A reference sample was also prepared using conventional heating. XRD pattern analysis showed that nanopowder obtained by means of conventional heating and calcination for 1 h at 900 °C has a structure made up of the garnet phase together with the hexagonal phase that disappeared after two additional hours of thermal treatment. The MWs powder calcined for 1 h consists of the single garnet phase. SAXS data analysis indicated that nanoparticles are characterized by a sharp interface. The behavior of cultured myotubes from chick embryos exposed to microwaves has been experimentally analyzed. Recordings of acetylcholine-induced currents have been obtained via patch-clamp techniques using both cell-attached (single-channel current recording) and whole-cell (total current recording) configurations. During the exposure to low-power microwaves the frequency of the ACh-activated single channel openings decreased, while the ACh-induced total current showed a faster falling phase. Stable CdS and ZnS nanoparticles with exalted luminescence properties have been obtained in water/sodium bis (2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT)/n-heptane microemulsion using microwave in order to take away selectively water molecules from microemulsion system.
